DIALOGUES On Adaptation: Hirokazu Kore-eda & Yeon Sang-ho

Summit

Synopsis

There is a designated number of public tickets to this event. Tickets can be purchased here. Pass holders have first come, first served access.

Hirokazu Kore-eda and Yeon Sang-ho are two of East Asian cinema's most compelling storytellers. While their stylistic approaches seem to sit on opposite ends of the genre spectrum – from Kore-eda’s gentle, naturalistic humanism to Yeon’s explosive, high-concept genre allegories – their thematic interests sharply overlap. With their latest films premiering at the Festival, Kore-eda’s tender manga adaptation Look Back and Yeon’s chilling psychological thriller Paradise Lost adapted from a novel, these celebrated directors take the Summit stage for an unmissable conversation on the mechanics and the art of adaptation.
